it took him 7 months to say "dada" and another 7 to finally say "mama." i don't think he relates that to me whatsoever, just like he still doesn't relate "dada" to mike, but it was nice to finally hear it. and when he said it, he was standing by the baby gate at the kitchen when i was fixing his bedtime milk whining "mamamamama." so, maybe.
at his last appointment the doctor told us that by 12 months he should have his first real word besides mama and dada. real word, meaning that he says "milk" and knows what it is. (he doesn't have any real words). he also said that at his 15 month appointment we would start to discuss interventions if he still didn't have any. that is only a month away.
i am not *that* worried because he communicates, babbles, interacts, and does everything else he's supposed to. he totally understands what we are saying to him. if we tell him "no" he at least stops and looks at us to think if whatever he's doing is worth it. if i ask him if he is ready for his milk, he dances around at the gate in the kitchen. he runs to his high chair when i tell him it's time for supper. etc, etc, etc. he just can't produce it yet.
